New Curio Collection by Hilton Hotel Opens in Key Largo

February 11, 2019

There’s a new location in Florida for meetings, incentive trips or retreats. Located an hour from Miami International Airport, the 200-room Baker’s Cay Resort Key Largo, Curio Collection by Hilton offers more than 25,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor space.

The former Hilton Key Largo, which closed in 2017, has been completely renovated and rebranded to provide a luxury resort experience. All guest rooms feature a private balcony, LCD TVs, mini refrigerators, Illy self-serve coffee makers and eco-conscious custom amenities. Waterfront rooms overlook Florida Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.

The resort, which opened its doors on Feb. 6, 2019, can host meetings of up to 150 attendees or seated dinners for 200 or more. Planners can also hold receptions on the Sunset Terrace for as many as 275 guests. The event facilities include a full-service business center and Wi-Fi access that spans both business and public spaces.

Situated on a 14-acre former pineapple plantation, Baker’s Cay Resort provides exclusive access to one of the area’s most secluded beaches. Amenities include an Aveda salon, fitness center, two swimming pools, a library and a hammock-lined walking path.

Guests can also choose from a wealth of environmentally friendly land, beach and sea activities, including seaplane rides, bicycle rental, beach golf with biodegradable golf balls, fishing charters, scuba diving and parasailing, all of which can be arranged by the hotel concierge.

For incentives or events where guests may wish to bring their families for an extended stay, Baker’s Cay Resort offers an eco-educational Kids Camp with experiences like scavenger hunts, snorkeling and culinary classes.

The resort’s definition of family includes pets as well. Its director of pet relations is a husky, and there are a number of programs available for canines and their companions. Pets (up to 100 lbs.) are welcome with a non-refundable pet deposit, and are allowed everywhere but the pool. So if you are holding an event on-property, be sure to either check for allergies in advance or notify attendees who may be allergic.

All of the on-property dining establishments leverage local ingredients, including some grown in the resort’s own rooftop garden. Guests can choose from the indoor/outdoor Caribbean-Creole restaurant Calusa; Dry Rocks, which offers live music, fire pits and local tequila; and a food truck for grilled favorites. The resort also has a pool bar and beachfront tiki bar. In-room dining is also available.

Baker’s Cay Resort is 3 miles from downtown Key Largo, which offers an array of shops and restaurants, walking/biking trails and the Island Time Trolley. The Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center and the marine mammal park Theatre by the Sea are also minutes away.

The resort is still getting some kinks out of their automated telephone system. At least for now, getting through to the sales and catering department by phone is a challenge. Planners can request a proposal on-line on the “Plan an Event” section of the Baker’s Cay Resort website.
