During this season of giving, the Javits Center in New York City continues to shine as a beacon of sustainability and community support with one of its most dazzling donations to date: a 15-foot, 1,100-pound crystal chandelier.

Originally designed by Baskervill and manufactured by Bluebird Lighting, the $18,000 masterpiece was showcased at Boutique Design New York (BDNY), a trade show for boutique hospitality brands and designers held Nov. 10-11 at the Manhattan facility.

Thanks to the JavitsCares program and a partnership with Materials for the Arts, this extraordinary chandelier, which features a unique art overlay by Kevin Barry Art Advisor, will now grace the ballroom of Brooklyn’s iconic House of Yes music venue.

How it worked: Once BDNY, which is owned by Emerald, alerted the Javits sustainability team about the chandelier's availability, the team coordinated with Materials for the Arts to find the perfect home. After outreach to its extensive network of more than 5,700 New York arts contacts, the dazzling centerpiece found its match. The Javits Teamsters union and security staff ensured a smooth transport to its new destination, where it will soon illuminate countless celebrations.

Back story: Since its inception in 2018, JavitsCares has diverted tens of thousands of exhibit materials, such as furniture and household goods, from landfills to non-profits across New York City. Through collaborations with Materials for the Arts, these efforts empower arts organizations, educators, and students while promoting sustainability.
