ALHI and Delos Announce Updated Wellness Certificate Program for Meetings and Events

February 28, 2023

With the health and well-being of event attendees a top priority for meeting planners, especially in the post-pandemic era, Associated Luxury Hotels International (ALHI), the sales and marketing extension to more than 250 global hotels and resorts, cruise lines and destination management companies, recently partnered with global wellness leader Delos to bring the first Delos Wellness Certificate for Meetings and Events to the meetings and events industry.

Backed by scientific research and designed to educate meeting planners on the benefits and value of wellness in meetings and events, the program’s updated curriculum, which was recently endorsed by the Events Industry Council (EIC), teaches event planners how to design, plan and implement wellness solutions to create safe, healthier and more productive event experiences for their attendees.

“Wellness around meetings goes well beyond the protocols that have become part of our vernacular,” said ALHI President and CEO Michael Dominguez. “But there is so much opportunity for education around the things we can do to elevate the well-being of our attendees and create environments where we can thrive.”

The certificate program leads planners through a series of videos covering topics such as air, water, light, nourishment, movement, comfort and mindfulness in a sequence related to key concepts in the wellness meeting space. Each video series poses important questions for self-reflection, opportunities to consider how best to equip a group for optimal meeting success and required knowledge checks for comprehension.

The content, which is delivered by Delos experts and meeting planners who have participated in the course, touches on subjects including nutrition, reducing stress, coping with Seasonal Affective Disorder, air quality, fitness and more.

“We know from market research and feedback from partners that business travelers are seeking healthier travel and meeting experiences that prioritize their well-being while away from home,” said Peter Scialla, founder, president and COO of Delos. “We are excited to equip meeting planners with the tools they need to deliver healthier, more productive meetings to attendees.”

So far, more than 300 meeting and event planners have participated in the Wellness Certificate program, Dominquez said.

“A healthy meeting is a happy meeting, and when people feel safe in their meeting spaces, that is when the most meaningful meetings can occur,” Dominguez said. “This accreditation also provides planners with a way to attract new clientele. Planners and meeting attendees alike can meet with confidence knowing that they are in as healthy of an environment as possible from a mental and physical standpoint.”
