First JW Marriott Marquis Hotel in China Opens in Shanghai

August 12, 2019

The luxury 515-room JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Shanghai Pudong opened Aug. 8 as the first JW Marriott Marquis hotel in China. This builds on Marriott’s brand launch momentum in the country, as it also opened the 191-room Aloft Shanghai Zhangjiang Hotel in April.

“For years, Shanghai has been deemed one of the most iconic cities in China and in the world, drawing in luxury travelers of different backgrounds that call for premium hospitality and personalized service,” said Henry Lee, chief operations officer and managing director in Greater China for Marriott International. “We are thrilled to announce the grand opening of JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Shanghai Pudong, as it stands not only for the latest milestone in the expansion of the JW Marriott luxury portfolio in China, but a new chapter for exceptional programs we are bringing to China’s luxury travelers.”

Centrally located near the Huangpu River and Lujiazui Central business district, JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Shanghai Pudong is near the city’s main business centers. Nearby facilities include Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center, the Mercedes-Benz Cultural Arena and Shanghai Oriental Sports Center. Shanghai Disneyland is 17 miles away.

Twelve multi-functional rooms and banquet venues offer nearly 35,000 square feet of meeting space. The Junior Marquis and Grand Marquis Ballrooms provide space for 600 and 800 guests, respectively, and can be divided into individual spaces with separate entrances. Two meeting rooms are separated by a live culinary theater with glass walls adjustable from opaque to transparent on demand, which are recommended for groups hosting cooking classes.

The 39-story hotel features sustainable exterior glass panels, which slant 12 to 17 degrees to provide guests a broader view of the city’s landscape. Each of the 515 guest rooms are equipped with amenities such as Simmons mattresses, 55-inch Samsung flat-screen TVs, surround sound systems and Nespresso coffee machines.

Guests can book treatments in the hotel’s spa or relax in the heated indoor infinity pool that features floor-to-ceiling windows with magnificent views of the Huangpu River.

Dining options include The Merchant Kitchen, a casual, all-day eatery; the mid-19th century-New York-inspired upscale bar and grill Flint; and Le Manoir Ling, which combines French and Cantonese influences. A three-story area splits up into The Hall, The Parlor and a stunning rooftop garden, including an interactive open kitchen. The JW Garden is an interactive dining experience in which the culinary team and guests source fresh ingredients to use in dishes. The Executive Lounge provides guests yet another space to unwind, and serves fresh juices for breakfast and signature cocktails in the evenings.

JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Shanghai Pudong is located 15 miles from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and 24 miles from Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
