July 31, 2023

Across the U.S., hospitality companies have been busy acquiring and rebranding hotel and resort properties, as well as completing renovations, to up their game as they compete for pre-pandemic levels of meetings and leisure business. Here’s a roundup of recent hotel developments.

Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina

 Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay

Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina in Chesapeake Bay, Md., recently completed a multi-million-dollar renovation that has transformed the 400-room waterfront resort’s more than 37,000 square feet of indoor meeting and event spaces.

The resort’s Chesapeake Ballroom, Choptank Ballroom and pre-function space now feature new plush carpeting, wall coverings, lighting fixtures and sconces and artwork, with neutral gray, light beige and blue tones to invite a calm and inviting atmosphere.

In addition to its newly-renovated ballrooms, Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay boasts 85,000 square feet of flexible outdoor event space. These include the Regatta Pavilion, backdropped by views of the scenic Choptank River; the Breakwater Pavilion, located several hundred feet offshore at the end of a private dock; the Grand Fireplace Patio, backdropped by a dramatic stone fireplace with sweeping views of the Crescent Pool and Choptank River; and the Manor Lawn, an expansive, manicured lawn located adjacent to River Marsh Golf Club’s 18th hole.

Additionally, the resort offers the Bluepoint Provisions venue, which features a spacious deck and a lawn that connects to the beach, complemented by indoor space with floor-to-ceiling windows.

Arlo Hotels

Arlo Williamsburg

The Williamsburg Hotel in Brooklyn, NY, will be rebranded in September 2023 as the Arlo Williamsburg, operating under the independent Arlo Hotels brand portfolio. The boutique hotel will be Arlo Hotels’ fourth property in New York City, joining Manhattan locations Arlo SoHo, Arlo NoMad and Arlo Midtown.

The eclectic six-year-old property features 147 guest rooms, including eight suites, each richly tiled and textured with reclaimed materials and floor-to-ceiling windows offering sweeping views of Brooklyn and the Manhattan skyline.

The property is well-known for its cocktail and lounge outlets, including the 10,000-square-foot seasonal outdoor Rooftop Bar & Pool Lounge, offering 360-degree views of the Manhattan skyline, a locally curated music series and a bespoke craft cocktail menu; the Water Tower Bar, an iconic fixture of the Brooklyn skyline featuring a custom food and cocktail menu; and the Lobby Bar, boasting a sophisticated cocktail menu.

Arlo Williamsburg’s on-site restaurant, The Williamsburg Restaurant, features a vegetable-forward menu with locally sourced and organic seasonal ingredients, and on weekends, the restaurant presents its signature Brooklyn High Tea.

The hotel also features a couple of dynamic and unique event spaces for intimate events, including the Mirror Bar – a private event space, performance venue and semi-secret club – and a 6,500-square-foot grand ballroom with soaring ceilings, chandeliers and sweeping staircases.

Courtyard Louisville Airport

Courtyard Louisville Airport

The Courtyard Louisville Airport in Louisville, Ky., recently completed an extensive renovation of its common areas, interiors and exteriors. Updated with a more contemporary look, the 150-room hotel now boasts an exterior design featuring warm wood cladding and state-of-the-art designer lighting, with new additions including a modernized fire pit and landscaping.

Inside the hotel, a completely revamped lobby features new furnishings, including media pods for work or relaxation and updated meeting facilities offering 1,350 square feet of space and enhanced amenities.

Conveniently located near the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, Courtyard Louisville Airport is managed by Aimbridge Hospitality.

The Vinoy Resort and Golf Club, Autograph Collection

The Vinoy Resort & Golf Club ballroom

The Vinoy Resort and Golf Club in St. Petersburg, Fla., recently debuted the first phase of a comprehensive renovation project that incorporates elegant design elements celebrating the resort’s traditional Mediterranean Revival design and old-Florida grandeur. Designed by world-renowned firms Rockwell Group and Hart Howerton, the revamp includes the resort’s legendary veranda, porte cochère, main lobby, guest rooms, a new full-service spa and wellness area, new dining experiences, a pool terrace and meeting and event spaces.

Opened in 1925, The Vinoy is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and is a member of Historic Hotels of America. It was also recently added to Marriott Bonvoy’s Autograph Collection of Hotels – independent hotels with their own identity, selected on four curatorial principles: product vision, heartfelt design, dedication to craft and sense of place.

As the only Autograph Collection hotel in St. Petersburg, the revived property balances original details with contemporary design elements, with 362 fully renovated guest rooms inspired by Florida’s coastal topography and featuring the hotel’s signature polished palette, streamlined crown molding, dramatic fixtures, custom art and luxurious bathrooms.

Diverse new food and beverage concepts include Lottie, the new chic French patisserie in the resort’s lobby, and the reimagined Veranda, which overlooks the Tampa Bay waterfront and offers a new menu of classic craft cocktails, along with Mediterranean-inspired shareable plates, light entrees and desserts. Opening this summer, Parasol, a vibrant Latin American-inspired, full-service outdoor restaurant with panoramic views of the Bay, will also overlook the resort’s new pool deck. A fine dining restaurant off the grand lobby will complete the final phase of renovations.

Boasting more than 60,000 square feet of event space, The Vinoy features two distinct ballrooms and 22 meeting rooms. Upgraded last year, The Vinoy Grand Ballroom offers 2,600 square feet of event space adorned with new carpeting, drapery and furnishings, a restored iconic Chihuly chandelier and a lush walled garden outside its dramatic arched windows.

Offering 11,520 square feet of space, The Palm Court Ballroom and entrance hall debuts a neutral color palette with polished brown accents, chic Art Deco chandeliers and sconces and brand-new flooring, walls and recessed ceilings.
