Google’s Annual Developer Conference Set for May 20-21: Here’s What to Expect

On February 11, Google announced its annual developer conference, I/O 2025, is set for May 20-21 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif., near the company’s headquarters.
With 98 days from the announcement to its opening, the two-day event, which typically features a mix of both public and developer content, is expected to draw thousands in person (attendance figures are not released publicly) and potentially millions more to its livestream and on demand broadcast. Shoreline Amphitheatre has 6,500 permanent reserved seats and capacity for another 16,000 fans on its lawn, according to the venue website.
Looking back: If this year’s event is anything like last year’s, Google CEO Sundar Pichai will kick things off with a keynote on May 20. Last year’s event, held May 14-15 at Shoreline Amphitheatre, featured 100 announcements on Search, Workspace, Photos, Android, and Gemini, Google’s generative AI platform.
Need to know: At I/O, in-person and virtual attendees will learn more about Google’s newest products, technologies, and innovations in AI, Android, and more. Day one starts with keynotes, followed by sessions, demos, networking opportunities, and more continuing on day two. Register here.

Context: “For those who haven’t seen I/O before, it’s basically Google’s version of the Eras Tour, but with fewer costume changes. At Google, we are fully in our Gemini era,” Pichai said last year from the main stage.

Looking ahead: Other developer events in 2025 include Nvidia’s GTC AI Conference, scheduled for March 17-21 in San Jose, Calif.; Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which is typically held in June at Apple Park (2025 dates and location have not been announced); and Microsoft Build, scheduled for May 19-22 in Seattle.
